Green Space
Resin, 7.5x5x2.5 ft, Winter 2024, Washington Park Arboretum, Seattle, WA

About the Artwork:
Green Space was inspired by how light dances across and through tree leaves. Since this piece is a public sculpture, I wanted it to enhance the environment surrounding it. Thus, The sculpture is placed in Washington Park Arboretum under deciduous trees, along a path so viewers can discover it while walking. The obsolete, fixed structures contrast with the deciduous trees surrounding it. The colors of the leaves change, fall, and are born again, yet a lasting green space exists throughout the year because of the sculptures. Parts of the surfaces of each section were cut away to allow the viewer to walk inside and through the artwork. The material is semi-translucent which allows filtered light to travel through the trees and into each piece. Originally modeled in sketchup, each piece is based on a cubic form, as seen in the photo to the left and below.
